There are so many kinds of treatments that are available for heroin addicts and that include behavioral therapies and medications. Science has found a way and has been proven that heroin addiction treatment very useful in giving patients the service of curing their addiction problems. The treatment basically starts from detoxification that is to help heroin addiction withdraw from using heroin safely. Medications like clonidine and buprenorphine are being used to minimize the effects of withdrawals. Treatments that are being used to avoid relapse:
Methadone – for more than 30years, methadone has been used to cure heroin addicts. It will stop the effects of other opiate drugs and at the same time preventing withdrawal effects.
Buprenorphine – this medication is a new one. This kind of medication has a different function compared to methadone. The difference between methadone and buprenorphine is the level of risk when it comes to over dosage and withdrawal effects plus it can be bought under the doctors desks.
Naltrexone – This kind of medication is not being used by most rehabilitation center. This kind of medication can effectively stop drug addiction especially to those people who are having high heroin dosage. This medication should not be used for those people who have not yet detoxified to avoid severe withdrawal effects.
